District 8B Deserves a Debate

Help Demand Ignacio-Gonzalez to Debate Alexander and give Voters a Real Choice

Voters in District 8B deserve the opportunity to hear directly from the people seeking to represent them on the Chicago Board of Education.

Alexander Angeles has publicly called on Juan Ignacio Gonzalez to participate in a public debate or candidate forum focused on the issues affecting District 8B and Chicago Public Schools.

A debate would give residents the chance to compare the candidates’ priorities, experience, and ideas in their own words – not just through campaign websites, mailers, advertisements, or social media.

Why a Debate Matters

School Board members make decisions that affect students, families, educators, and entire neighborhoods. Voters should have the opportunity to hear candidates answer questions directly about the issues that matter most.

A District 8B debate could address topics such as:

  • School funding and protecting classroom resources
  • Smaller class sizes and adequate staffing
  • Special education and student support services
  • School meals and building conditions
  • The role of educators and organized labor
  • Student and community involvement in CPS decisions
  • Transparency and accountability on the School Board
  • The future of neighborhood public schools

Alexander believes both candidates should have the opportunity to explain their positions and answer questions from the community.

Alexander Is Ready to Debate

Alexander is prepared to participate in a fair, professionally moderated debate held in a neutral setting.

The campaign welcomes a format organized by a community organization, civic group, educational institution, or local media organization, with equal speaking time for both candidates and an opportunity for residents to submit questions.

The invitation is simple:

Let both candidates appear before the community.
Let both candidates answer the difficult questions.
Let District 8B voters hear the differences for themselves.

Help Request a Public Debate

If you believe District 8B voters should have the opportunity to hear directly from both candidates, you may add your name to a public petition requesting that Juan Ignacio Gonzalez participate in a debate with Alexander Angeles before Election Day.

Signing the petition is completely voluntary and does not require you to endorse either candidate.
