18-Year-Old College Student Announces Write In Campaign for Chicago School Board District 8B

CHICAGO, IL – August 2026 – Alexander Angeles, an 18-year-old lifelong Chicagoan, recent CPS graduate, and former Local School Council Student Representative, has announced his write-in campaign for Chicago Board of Education District 8B.

Raised in West Lawn, Angeles attended Eberhart Elementary School and John Hancock College Preparatory High School and now attends the University of Illinois Chicago. His campaign focuses on bringing a recent student perspective to the School Board and challenging a system that too often asks students and educators to do more with less.

“I graduated from CPS only months ago, so these issues are still very real to me,” Angeles said. “Students deserve better resources, better meals, smaller class sizes, safer schools, and a stronger voice in the decisions that affect them.”

As a Student Representative on his Local School Council, Angeles worked with parents, educators, community members, and administrators while pushing for greater student involvement and accountability in school governance.

His campaign priorities include smaller class sizes, improved school meals, stronger classroom resources, better school facilities, student representation, transparency, and accountability.

Angeles also entered the race because he believes District 8B voters deserve a meaningful choice.

“An election should not feel decided before voters even reach the ballot box,” Angeles said. “Our community deserves another option and a real conversation about the future of our schools.”

Angeles has pledged to run a grassroots-focused campaign and not accept corporate PAC contributions.

Because this is a write-in campaign, his name will not appear as a printed option on the ballot. Eligible voters in School Board District 8B who wish to support him must write in Alexander Angeles in the School Board race.
